Athens is located in the Appalachian foothills and is an excellent starting point for day or weekend trips by motorcycle. There are numerous and well paved state routes to nearby State parks, especially in the Hocking Hills region. If you prefer the city for a day-trip, Cincinnati is 110 miles away and Pittsburgh is located 240 miles from Athens. There is also excellent riding to be found in the mountains of West Virginia and in Western Pennsylvania.
